ART MAGE

The Role

To Whit Ventures is seeking a full-time, Art Mage to compose illustrations for three rule books (Core Rules, Character Building, and Lore) by August 18th, 2025. They must confident illustrators who are able to match, develop, and hone a distinctive art-style based on pre-existing narrative, aesthetic, and mechanical elements. Your art will be the face of this game. It will frame the theater of mind for all of our inaugural players and GMs.

Our ideal candidate is also a gamer at heart and in practice. Somebody who considers their relationship with games to be a core part of their personality, who has big feelings and strong opinions about games. And if you are passionate about tabletop gaming specifically, we hope you will apply.

We care more about what your portfolio looks like than where you went to school, who you’ve worked for, or what you have already produced, shipped, or published. Above all, we want an artist who feels passionate about this project. Somebody who feels confident, inspired, and eager to collaborate.

If this collaboration proves to be a good fit, we will be looking to hire for long-term employment in the near future.

The Project

To Whit Ventures is launching Echelon, a virtual tabletop (VTT), in the fourth quarter of 2026. To build interest in our flagship title, Anno Amagium: The RPG, we will be sharing digital copies of the game’s first three rulebooks at DragonCon.

Anno Amagium: The RPG is a vehicle for fantasy wish-fulfilment in a modern setting through the lens of TTRPG combat and mystery solving. Players join the ranks of a global, fancifully idealized magic police force in an inherently supernatural version of Earth. Everyone, everything, every concept, and institution in this world has an additional magic dimension.

Normal people—your 'Average Joe’ off the street, little kids, the elderly, even the unsound of mind—can all typically perform magic. That said, “mages” also still exist. Magic just happens to be their job. History is (mostly) the same, because people are people, but magic has made an impact. Inanimate objects have unique magical properties. Normal animals can perform simple magic, but biologically magical animals—kaiju, griffons, shapeshifters, and vampires (many kinds, don’t worry)—also exist, possessing unique abilities and uncommon intelligence.

The Anno Amagium aesthetic can be described in a number of colorful ways. The term “Magi-Punk” is certainly accurate—imagine the fashion trends of our world reflected in a Final Fantasy VII-flavored funhouse mirror. The Amagium itself is definitely a militant shade of Dark Academia with elements of Catholicism-But-Make-It-Anime. Anachronistic flourishes like broad-rimmed caps, capes, long coats, and errant bits of armor are common fashion accents. But so are more familiar staples like jeans, jackets, suits, skirts, and dresses.
